SLBFE Provides New House to Injured Migrant Worker Mrs. R.M. Kanthiratna Menike

SLBFE Media NEWS: In a compassionate effort to support migrant workers in distress, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has provided a newly built house to Mrs. R.M. Kanthiratna Menike, a resident of Magandanamulla, who was left disabled due to an accident while working in Kuwait. The house was officially handed over to her on March 21, 2025, by SLBFE Chairman Koshala Wickramasinghe.

Mrs. Kanthiratna Menike previously lived in a house with plank walls, a thatched covering, and a tin roof. Recognizing her difficult living conditions, the SLBFE stepped in and constructed a new house for her at a cost of Rs. 1.75 million under the Bureau’s “Sahan Niwasa” Programme. The construction was carried out under the supervision of the Monaragala Divisional Secretariat.

The SLBFE emphasizes the importance of registering with the Bureau when seeking employment abroad. Ms. Kanthiratna Menike had completed this mandatory registration before leaving for work in Kuwait, which enabled her to receive support from the Bureau upon encountering difficulties. The SLBFE extends various welfare and development benefits to registered migrant workers, including free insurance coverage, medical assistance, housing assistance in case of work-related accidents, medical clinics for workers and their families, self-employment aid, and scholarships for their children.

The handover ceremony was attended by SLBFE Senior Manager (Uva Province) Mrs. S. Gallage, along with officers from the Bureau’s Monaragala District Center and Foreign Employment Development Officers.

This initiative highlights the SLBFE’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of Sri Lankan migrant workers and their families, reaffirming its role in providing essential support to those in need.
